How to handle a focus group discussion

(based on personal experience)

1. Make sure the environment is quiet enough.

2. As a researcher,take control of the discussion coz your participants may get into a serious debate,though a debate is not a bad thing coz you get more info ;) or if they are out of topic,direct it back to the question without being rude.

3. Make sure your questions are clear and understandable coz I had to rephrase mine a few times :( but nonetheless i've learnt a lesson :)

4. Do not be afraid to talk ala 1Malaysia like lah,ma,err,hmm,ehh & ah coz you want the discussion to be relaxing and less formal.That way your participants are more keen to answer.

5. At this point language is not an important priority but make sure you get what the participants are saying.
